At Malaika, skilful artisans revive the ancient technique of Fayoum pottery that is distinctly Egyptian. It draws direct inspiration from the lush green oasis that neighbours the river Nile. Clay sourced from its fertile delta is beaten by hand to make bowls, vases, urns and plates; while visual stories via decorative motifs like native leaves, palms, scarab beetles and fish from pharaonic folklore are painted over them. These pieces are covered with a blue-green glaze that's typical of this kind of pottery. Anthology presents select pieces which best reflect the world of the mighty river and all the life it has sustained.
